Several Ward Six Firefighters are attending a 24 hour emergency vehicle driver training course during the next 2 weeks at Ward Six Fire Protection. The course covers the safe operation of emergency vehicles and includes 16 hours of classroom training, along with 8 hours of hands-on training. New recruits are required to have 60 hours of combined classroom and hands-on driver training prior to being allowed to drive any of the fire department’s emergency vehicles. After being released to drive emergency vehicles, each Firefighter is then required to have 12 hours of driver training annually. This training course is offered through Volunteer Firefighter Insurance Services (VFIS). Ward Six Fire Protection has several instructors who are trained to teach the course.
