!

Fire Departments in SWLA have seen an increased amount of grass and woods fires. Dry weather, low humidity, strong winds, and grassy fuels dying do to the onset of fall have increased the likelihood of fires starting easily.

Please use safe burning practices if you plan to burn on your property. Always have a water hose available, do not leave fire unattended, and monitor weather conditions if you plan to burn on your property. If you start a fire and it begins to spread call 911 immediately.

Three parishes have instituted burn bans in the state with two of them being in SWLA. See attached burn ban map.

Currently there is no burn ban in Calcasieu Parish. Fire Chiefs are monitoring the weather conditions and evaluating the number of calls. If everyone practices safe burning habits it will make the fire departments job of protecting property much easier.

If you plan to conduct a control burn in Calcasieu Parish you can call the non-emergency line 337-439-9911 at Calcasieu Parish E911 and advise them of the location. This will help fire departments know where control burns are occurring in their fire districts. If your control burn gets out of control call 911 Immediately!!!
