Responders stay busy during cold weather

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One responded to Rigmaiden Cemetery Rd for a smoke detector activation. Upon arrival, the homeowner was assisted with replacing batteries in their detectors. No other hazards found.

At 12:10pm, Ward 6 Engine 5, Service 6, and Unit 901 responded to a mutual aid request from Beauregard Fire District 1 for an RV fire.
Upon arrival of Unit 901, the RV was fully involved with fire. Firefighters from Beauregard and Ward 6 extinguished the fire. During extinguishment operations, firefighters discovered a deceased person. This fire is under investigation by the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.

At 2:13pm, Ward 6 dispatched to High Hope Care Center for an alarm activation. While enroute the alarm company canceled the fire department. At 2:24pm the alarm system sent another activated again. Upon arrival of fire department, maintenance personnel discovered a broken spr8nkler head due to cold weather. The head was isolated and alarm reset.

At 2:44pm, Ward 6 dispatched to a commercial business in the 1100 blk of Hwy 12.
Upon arrival of Engine 5 smoke was discovered in the business. Firefighters investigated and found a build up on the fan and a burned fan motor. System was isolated so the business could remain operational.
