At approx. 7:39am, Ward 6 Engines 7, 17, Service 8 and Command Unit 901 responded with 7 firefighters to a report of oil storage tanks on fire in the 1400 blk of Holbrook Park Rd.
Upon arrival of Unit 901, one tank was actively burning, 1 tank was smoking and 4 tanks appeared to have already burned all of the contents and had self extinguished.
The tank battery consisted of 9 tanks with six of the tanks missing their roofs and heavily damaged by fire.
Ward 1 Fire Department was requested as mutual aid with an Engine and manpower.
Firefighters used a preconnected blitz line with firefighting foam to quickly extinguish the fire and cool the tanks to ambient temperatures.
Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat and LA DEQ were notified and responded to the scene.
It appeares the site was hit by lightning during the severe weather prior to the call being dispatched. |
