At 7:46am, DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department, Ward 6 Fire Prot. Dist. 1 and HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT responded to a reported structure fire in the 900 blk of Smith St.
Upon arrival of DQ Engine 19, fire and smoke was observed venting from the front window. Firefighters conducted a transitional fire attack and contained the fire to the room of origin. There was smoke damage throughout the resident.
Beauregard Parish Fire District 2 responded as mutual aid with an engine company and 4 personnel.
Thankfully, the home occupant was alerted by a working smoke detector and was able to exit the structure through a bedroom window to safety.
