At 2:58pm, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One responded to a reported structure fire on Juniper Road as automatic aid to HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT. On arrival of HRFD command, the scene size up included a single family dwelling with smoke and fire showing.
Engine 7, Service 6 & 8, Command units 901 & 903, Air Trailer 1 responded with 10 firefiighters. Crews immediately began a transitional fire attack with an aggressive interior suppression operation. Fire conditions began to threaten the structural integrity of the structure. Firefighters were removed and defensive fire suppression operations were established.
A water shuttle operations was conducted along with mutual aid activated from the following departments. Carlyss Fire Dept, Westlake Fire Department, Sulphur Fire Dept., and Lake Charles Fire Department. The high heat indexes was taxing to personnel and the additional manpower ensured firefighters received proper rehab during suppression operations.
Acadian Ambulance provided medical monitoring for firefighters, CPSO assisted with traffic control for water shuttle operations. DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department provided standby coverage for the Ward 6 area while we worked this incident.
Unfortunately, the structure was a total loss. There were no injuries to firefighters on scene. One occupamt received minor burns prior to arrival of the fire department.
All Ward 6 Units were released from the scene at approximately 8:00pm. |
